This project began with the ambition to document the vibrant and resilient culture of my people. However, the narrative that unfolded spoke of issues that have been economically and morally plaguing the island for over a century. Beyond the beauty in the eyes of the people, the lens is focused on pollution and the discordance between people on the west and the east of the dividing border.

Through this collection, my ambition is to begin a conversation, one that goes beyond the propaganda spread through the media. To build a foundation capable of supporting sustainable growth, it’s crucial that we discuss and understand our shortcomings just as well as our success. Through these photographs, we meditate on both extremes of the cultural spectrum; the beautiful and the fractured.

Este proyecto comenzó con la ambición de documentar la cultura vibrante y resistente de mi gente. Sin embargo, la narrativa que se desarrolló habló de cuestiones que han estado afectando económica y moralmente a la isla durante más de un siglo. Más allá de la belleza en los ojos de las personas, el proyecto se enfoca en la contaminación del medio ambiente y la discordancia entre las personas en el oeste y el este de la frontera divisoria.

A través de esta colección, mi ambición es comenzar una conversación, una que vaya más allá de la propaganda difundida por los medios. Para construir una base capaz de apoyar el crecimiento sostenible, es crucial que discutamos y comprendamos nuestras deficiencias, así como nuestro éxito. A través de estas fotografías, meditamos en ambos extremos del espectro cultural; lo bello y lo fracturado.
